  1. Massive immigration, and still skill shortage = not exactly importing skilled migrants. How hard can it be to stop immigration to Ireland? Its an island after all, and has the UK in front of it. So this sounds like the normal do-good'ers that think that all immigrants are the same, and will be a positive contribution to society. Just look to Sweden if you want to know how that is going to end up.

  2. The Swedish people are accountable. The Swedes have an exceptionally "group-thinking" culture. They are like a school of fish. They will follow wherever the leaders take them. So now, they will work very hard, in unison, to fix the mess they have made for themselves.

  3. You need to understand Swedish culture, to see why they did as they did (I'm Norwegian, so I know their culture, and where it is a bit "special"). The Swedes believed that their society was the ultimate in human development, and that when anyone else experience it, they will become Swedish as themselves. Combine this with 200 years of peace and an extreme consensus based culture, that will hunt down anyone speaking up - and you have the recipe for disaster.

  6. There are a few mechanisms at play here (I'm Norwegian with Swedish family ties, so I know Swedes quite well). In Sweden's case, it has been at peace for 200+ years. Sweden has never been conquered or occupied, they dont even have a real national day. No Swede living today has ever had to fight for Sweden, or even know of anyone who has. Swedes took Sweden for granted. Combine this with a world view that the Swedish society was the best in the world, with an exceptional trust in authorities, and you have a recipe for disaster. When immigrants started flocking to Sweden, they thought that they needed to help these poor people. And that as soon as people from other parts of the world arrive in Sweden, they will realize how good the Swedish system is, and align their culture and values with the Swedish ones automatically. The government would keep up this perceived goodness for as long as they could, and any critics were subdued as racists or nazis. They should have course corrected 20 years ago, but they kept on going, until the issues could no longer be swept under the carpet. Now there is a new government in place, and Swedes will now align behind that, in order to fix the issues their culture caused.

  8. The Sweden that existed 20-40 years ago, is already long gone. It was too naive to survive in a global world. And you are right, because its not the amount of immigrants today that matters, its how many you'll have in 20 years. And for that you need to look at the people being born. Sweden has already changed, and the change will continue. How it will end up, nobody knows.

  9. As a Norwegian, I think your reporting was fair and balanced. It should be said that the idiocy of Swedish policies in immigration and integration has been widely known in both Norway and Denmark for decades. It took Sweden decades to get here, it cost them a lot of money and sacrifice. And it will take them decades to get out of, and even more money and sacrifice.

  13.  @finncarlbomholtsrensen1188  - Denmark is a small country, so the instability can be absorbed by the countries around. However, it doesn't scale. And wind also has a very bad business case. When there is a lot of wind, there will be too much power generated, and the price will therefore be very low (might even be negative). So you don't earn money selling the power. When wind doesn't blow, the price will be high, but you will have nothing to sell. The only good thing about wind-power is that it can be used to convert government subsidies into private money in a tax haven. For that it is great.

  15.  @Tim05Sweden  - problem is, wind and solar doesn't produce power when there is no wind or sun. Meaning you'll get too much electricity when the sun is out and the wind blows, and on a wind-less night you get nothing. Its useless for running a modern society.

  16.  @mann3dduck640  - if anything wind is causing major issues in our electrical grid, as it is chaotic and not easy to plan for - making for expensive upgrades of the grid being required. Nuclear power is at least 70 years old by now. Its not a new technology. In any case, a modern society needs power 24/7/365 - and neither solar nor wind can provide that.

  20. So the unreliable wind energy of Denmark is reliant on Hydro, Nuclear and Gas/Coal power from neighboring countries? Doesn't sound like something that can scale very much.
