  1. Gotland has a potential high strategic value in an escalated conflict. And it is much harder to attack an island than it is to defend one. So Sweden is just doing its thing, so nobody gets any wrong ideas.

But if a conflict would break out between Russia and Ukraine and it would escalate into the Baltic states (NATO members), then the island of Gotland becomes a very valuable strategic asset. So Sweden just want to make sure it isn't caught by any surprises - which is what a country's defense is all about.

  3. Swedes have not lost Swedish. Knowing English doesn't mean you don't speak your native language. Brainwashing might be correct, but at least they are taking precautions when protecting a potentially strategic area.
