As a Norwegian, I'm happy to see Poland take a serious lead here. Moving a lot of production to Poland can be very good for the Polish economy.

Drone + automatic grenade launcher looks like a very cheap an interesting combo.

Norway just had competition between the K2 and Leopard 2A7, and Leopard won the bid. However, turns out the Norwegian army actually recommended getting the K2, but the government went with the Leopard anyways. (Some of the old Leopard 2A4s are now sent to Ukraine, getting ready to smoke Russians).

Finland is the "prepper" nation of Europe. Russia now gets bogged down a few km from their own borders on flat farm-land in Ukraine... I think Finland is a no-go as target. As a Norwegian, the only downside to having Sweden and Finland being part of NATO was that it was a nice get-a-way place should shit hit the fan. On the other hand, seeing Russian actual combat performance I don't really feel a need to worry about such a scenario.

@canivor81 - money is probably not the main issue. Its more politics is my guess.

Very nice work by Poland. I'm impressed by the seriousness and effort they make to modernize their armed forces.

As a Norwegian, I must say Lithuania seems to have gone for a good concept. Staying away from very expensive things. (Unlike Norway that blew the entire defense budget on F-35s and all sorts of other goodies). I'm not sure if they have it, but I think they could use some Bayraktars as well.
23
how about Indian troops as peacekeepers? Paid for by European countries?
21
Not to mention all the Poles working in EU countries sending money back.
18
Think there is too much to loose for China, and not too much to gain. As long as Taiwan is not seeking independence, I don't see China attacking. The economic impact would be so big, there is a lot of other Asian countries that would be more than happy to take up the job of being the factory for the world.
13
Kamelåså - you just bought a thousand liters of milk.
8
@davidgoodnow269 - NATO was only in Afghanistan as USA invoked Article 5 after the 911 attacks. The other ones had nothing to do with NATO.
7
Looks to me like a stalemate is brewing... Neither side has the equipment or manpower to win decisively. And the defensive weapons are more powerful than the offensive ones. In WW1 that gave rise to the Tank. Wonder what wonder weapons will be thought out to break this situation. Armed mini swarm drones? Who knows.
6
@kutter_ttl6786 - well in a world-war 3 scenario, producing sticks and rocks is probably enough.
3
Yeah, I wonder the cost of the system. Even if the shots are cheap, an autocannon with burst rounds probably are way cheaper in reality.
3
Thank you for your very interesting insights. I like the hard dose of reality you bring, as you correctly point out - we in the west are seeing Ukrainian propaganda and cheer them on, but we are not seeing the Russian side of things. Keep doing these, they are way better than what I've found elsewhere.
3
Reflectivity of a surface is dependent on the frequency of the light. (That's why you can get wifi through walls, but cannot see through them). So I guess they'll just adjust frequency a lot, so regardless of what you coat it with, it will go through.
2
My guess would be it would change the frequency of the laser beam. As reflectiveness of a surface is dependent on the frequency of the light.
2
Well, MRLS systems are not intended for not causing more damage than necessary to civilians. Those things are for leveling huge areas, regardless of what is in the area.
2
Wow! This was a very big surprise. Also very interesting the thing you said about the rotation and professionalism. I guess that's one of the benefits of defending your homeland, you are never far away from home.
2
As a Norwegian, this is way overhyped. Russia has shit-ton of land, and of course China is interested in those resources. But these areas are super inhospitable, except maybe a few months mid summer. The rest of the year, it is much more hostile than most people can imagine. Just look at the martime-traffic map, and you'll see there is next to no vessels up there. There is nothing really to fight over, that cannot be traded for anyways. Canada have vast areas with probably a shit-ton of undiscovered resources. But again, not worth extracting, because the climate is so bad for large parts of the year.
2
Well it was never really reported much in Western media.
2
The new and improved one? With the new and improved fleece bullet stop?
2
@sam1.714 - bombing of Yugoslavia was a questionable act by NATO. At that time in history it was deemed ok, and NATO really had nothing better to do as Sovjet Union and Russia was out of the game. There are never excuses for bombing civilian targets.
1
@3dee106 - no, they are not. They have yet to take any major town that wasn't jumped in the first few days of the invasion. Russia has lost enormous amounts of soldiers, tanks, airplanes and other equipment. At the same time they've made sure Ukraine now gets free weapons from NATO countries until Russia is beaten. If you want to know how things really are on the ground, here is a good channel for you - day to day updates. Just go back a few weeks and see how much have really changed. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-NVQrCJSnZI

China does lack something the US has though - loads of friends and allies.
1
Well, why not use civilian airplanes to move soldiers? Also the fearmongering about China seems to be a bit on the high side.
1
Well Putin now had the chance of ruling over a prosperous Russia and a disunited West. Now he gets to be president of North-West Korea and Europe is going to rearm itself.
1
Finland is a very different beast to defend than Poland. As a Norwegian I have no doubt in the Finnish will and ability to defend themselves. Its the prepper nation of Europe (along with the Swiss).
1
Yeah, guns are obsolete the day one can just pop a laser on to the battlefield, and the laser just pops each enemy soldier as soon as he is spotted. No delay, no noise, no light, just dead, next one, dead, etc.
1
I'm very interested in knowing more about how the Assad forces collapsed so incredibly quickly.
1
@annapatrikeevna1464 - name another country that could do it, and get away with it?
1
Donate/Sell the old, in with the new.
1
I think blinding weapons are prohibited thankfully. Remember reading about this as a potential spin off from the 'Star Wars' program in the 1980s. They never got the lasers good enough to destroy ICBMs, but they could blind people. In theory one could mount such lasers on airplanes and just fly over the battlefield, and instantly blind anyone looking up on the airplane. Not very nice.
1
These are really small numbers for a country of 80 million people.
1
I'm not sure this war was unavoidable, but it might have been.
1
Probably because of the legality of blinding weapons, so I think he didn't want to talk about that much...
1
I think the BMP looks good.
1
As long as there still is free and fair elections, I don't really see any big issues here.
