He's wrong most of the time and he is learning as he goes. The discrepancy you noticed is a perfect example. He also used to think money mattered and now he knows that isn't true. Eventually, if he keeps learning, he will stop saying relationships are like a business and he'll say that women should have self-respect and not give it up so easily. So just be careful of the advice you take from him, because he is barely learning this stuff.

Ultimatums are a bad way to go. Its manipulation with the hopes that losing them will make you do what they want. Ultimatums come from a place of insecurity. Ultimatums mean they don't truly believe they deserve what they want. It also means somewhere deep down, she knows you aren't really interested, but she doesn't leave because she doesn't believe she deserves to have what she wants, so she tries to force things with an ultimatum. The men that get the ultimatums are usually the men that date women they have no romantic interest in. So its better to break up with her when you know you aren't truly interested. So she can be open to find someone that really wants her.

It can't be transactional because it won't work. When things are going well and both of you are showing love and consideration for one another, it's easy, but what if one person becomes sad or down or angry for a time and does not show the same affection? Your relationship will end if you treat it like a business and just hold back your love and affection and start returning the same treatment. A big part of love is continuing to be loving, even when your partner isn't being loving. This is why treating relationships like a business will ultimately fail. That, and it would feel unfulfilled, because you would think your partner doesn't love you, but only loves your "product", which is a bad way to go. It would be like being a prostitute.
