I don't think people are concered that you don't care about them. I think they are more concerned that toxic advice is being given. You say you are just saying how some successful people operate, but most people look at what you say as advice due to your position as a psychiatrist. Also, paying for services as transactions is normal and getting along with that person is normal. No one has an issue about that. Being in fully PERSONAL relationships and looking for them to be fully transactional is not normal or healthy and would be toxic to the personal relationship. This is because they require love to thrive. And in order for actual love to be shown, affection and time has to be given freely from both parties. If its not free, then its not love. Granted, giving love does spark others to do the same, but it all still has to be given without expectation of something in return for both people to be and feel free and to show love. It's the only way a person can FEEL you caring for them in a personal relationship. Now, there are those that would take advantage of your affection by taking it while not truly caring for you or treating you bad. This is why you have to have self-respect or self-love in order to recognize it and walk away from that person. THIS is the only healthy contingency.
