The US national debt is now rising at a rate of around a trillion dollars every few months. That's not "prudent economic management" - that's burning the future to try to pad today's numbers.

@johnkitching2248 No that's true - Britain had a superior system for managing debt, compared to the French who relied on arbitrary expropriation. This allowed Britain to pay for its wars AND for reliably paying it down after major spending bouts - which built confidence in Stirling as currency. (Which was of course backed by gold during Britain's heyday - unlike the dollar since 1971). Simply running the printing presses to pay for ever rising deficits, is totally different.

@johnkitching2248 Actually a very concise and courteous attempt to explain basic economics to someone who clearly doesn't understand it. It doesn't matter if you think the US is immune to the economic gravity that has applied to every other empire in history - it's not.
