@arshadali2312 How come Switzerland is a developed nation? Or Denmark? Or Norway? Tell me the tale of their vast empires why don't you? While you're at it - you can explain to me why Mongolia is poor despite having had the world's largest contiguous empire. or why Spain and Portugal lagged Britain France and Germany in development despite having had huge empire in the centuries before. I guess you could also try explaining why the standard of living for the average brit rose between 1910 and 1960 despite loss of the empire. But I guess all of that would require a slightly more sophisticated and educated view of history than, "You stole modernity from Africa".

That is the biggest pile of economically illiterate nonsense I've ever heard - many countries have become and remained developed 1st world nations without ever having had an empire. It never fails to amaze me the kind of cobblers people will repeat just because they heard someone on TV say it.
