  1. My experience of Israel is they're a philosophical people - they know that anti-Semitism will never go away, and so they focus on physical security and cultural resilience. Their enemies have a problem which is in order to win, they have to destroy a whole country that is exceptionally good at surviving: and which the neighbouring countries don't really want to fight.

  3. This does need to be taken into account - they're a group that values ideological purity (extremism) over rational decision making. You could see the same phenomenon in the USSR over decades.

  4. @beetleLoanstein The attack on Pearl harbour was carefully planned too - and successfully showed American vulnerability. It still turned out to be a bad move for those who carried it out though. . . . . . .
