I think slowly (painfully slowly) more and more people are starting to realize that all of these smears that get routinely trotted out are just noise pollution - all they mean is that the person being slandered is threatening the entrenched interests of the elites. I noticed it with Russel Brand - they threw all the usual "boo words" at him, and everyone just rolled their eyes and ignored it.
