"ironically, casts were more diverse then than they are now" And no one minded because they were cast in a way that felt natural. The deliberate lying about the past is one of the most insidious aspects of the modern woke movement.

Not just the Romans, it's been the standard attitude of most cultures across most of history. An instinctive recognition that these were people who craved attention more than virtue.

Hollywood has always been like this - a pit of the vilest people imaginable, it's just we didn't used to know about it.

Exactly. And they stopped being entertaining, and started being annoying.

You can't be a plausible actor and be constantly putting your "real" self out there all the time. When I see Robert DeNiro now, all I think is - "Oh look, it's that whiney, cucky Hollywood brat pretending to be a tough guy".

Yup. Remember for most of history actors were regarded similar to prostitutes.

Being a real "star" requires glamour, and glamour ultimately rests on a certain mystery. You can't retain that mystery when you're on Twitter showing everyone what an entitled, spoilt, condescending and ignorant little brat you are 24/7. There's a reason that for most of history acting has been regarded as disreputable profession for outcasts. It tends to attract people with dysfunctional personalities, and it was only the blanket of slick PR and ruthless cover-ups in the 20th century that blinded the general public to what a cess-pit of hideousness the entertainment industry was.
