  1. This is the problem - the later and later it gets left, the more drastic the methods that would be needed. And the British have shown a frustrating belief that "mild remedies" will sort out any problem, and anything else is a bit too scary for them.

  3. The great flaw in liberal ideology (if we charitably assume it was a flaw and not a part of their plan), is they thought everyone was a civilised, highly educated, western liberal. They made no allowance at all for the existence of different cultures and differences between ethnic groups. Like the fact there are immigrant youths who will try to murder a total stranger in a shopping centre for no reason other than they think it's "funny".
