  2. This is what I think is always missing from documentaries about war, which generally end when the fighting stops. But people like your father have to go on living with the consequences of them for so many years after the guns go silent. It haunts me to look at those child soldiers and think if they hadn't been slaughtered in this useless bloodbath, they could now be settled and contended middle aged husbands and fathers.

  3. All wars are wasteful, but there seems something especially wasteful and pointless about this one. Eight years of massive bloodshed, suffering and expenditure - and at the end of it, nothing had changed. Shame on Iraq for starting it. Shame on Iran for letting it drag on for years after it could have ended. And shame on everyone else for facilitating it.
