  4. It really is a lesson in not over-egging your lies. That stuff about the bleach and the noose (which the "attackers" just happened to be carrying around with them in case they ran into a minor celebrity) was so cartoony it made all the rest seem more ridiculous than disturbing.

  5. It's only really embarrassing to the people who promoted the hoax because it suited their ideological agenda, and those who believed it because it suited their prejudices. I doubt Smollett feels any embarrassment.
