@حمیدصحتنژاد Iran was supplied by the USSR during the war in the 80s. And given it's larger size in area and population to Iraq, the fact that it managed to hold is not that significant. In any case this video is considering the prospect of an air-war, not an attempted occupation.

@musam1026 "powerful friends - eg hezbollah and the yemen houthis" Hezbollah are so "powerful" they won't risk a fight with the smallest country in the region when that country is already heavily engaged on another front. And the Houthis don't even control all of their own small nation. It's a fatal conceit to over-estimate one's own power.

America don't actually need anyone else's bases, they can hit Iran with aircraft based in the United States. And of course they have bases all over the world. Not saying they should do it, but they could. . . . . . .

Iran had support from the USSR during that war, and given Iran is a larger country than Iraq, it's not too surprising they managed to hold out. And "hold out" is all they achieved. Even when they resorted to means like rounding up children and throwing them into the Iraqi guns.
