The absolute obsession with trying to portray every female character as superior in every way to every male character, and every non-white character as superior to every white character - is killing entertainment. I watched Reacher recently, and although far from perfect, it's a great example of how to write a supporting character, (detective Finley) who is a capable and valuable ally to the hero, and who has his own personality and motives - but who doesn't overshadow the hero or have to put others down to make himself look better.
