  3. What people always respond to - is timeless, compelling stories: in a setting that speaks of a distinct cultural tradition. That's why people can love both Lord of the Rings and Manga. What they don't respond to shallow writing in a setting that is deliberately stripped of all uniqueness in a quest to be everything and nothing.
