Did anyone else love that the seemingly massively fat and slovenly German crime-boss, could actually kick ass, do slick fight moves and almost defeat Wick? I didn't expect to see him doing high-kicks to Keanu's face, and it was a really cool surprise.

It was video-gamey - but it managed to do it in a way that still played to the strengths of cinema instead of just mimicking a different medium.

Typically at this point in an action franchise's life - you have your popular but aging principle star become a mentor to a young upstart. Hollywood used to be good at making those kinds of movies, but sort of forgot how to do them when they decided everything had to be deconstructed and laughed at.

"visceral combat sequences that tow a fine line between brawls and ballet" Indeed. I think the phrase "shotgun ballet" was originally coined for the John Woo films.

@SeriousMcnegative Nothing to be embarrassed about - Woo is one of the most influential movie directors who ever lived.

Agreed. "Assassin FM" was perfect for the universe - kinda silly, but also perfectly in keeping with the tone and feel of the film.

These movies are so stylishly cool and viscerally exciting: you can forget how utterly silly and ridiculous everything about them is. Keanu somehow manages to sell it all - which makes him a better actor than I used to give him credit for.
