"A loan generally doesn’t ‘become due" True - but for nations, when investors lose faith in your ability to service your debt and the interest rate you have to offer on your bonds shoots up: that's effectively the debt "becoming due". It's not like the US could just eliminate its deficit and balance its books tomorrow without massive economic fallout.

  4. There's probably going to be a lot of these in the coming year(s) - "financial gurus" who really just bought trending stocks in a bull market with massive leverage. A strategy that only works as long as the market keeps marching relentlessly up. We've been in a bull market for nearly 14 years, the only people left in the money-management industry are people whose entire career has been "buy the dip".
