This is one of the reasons the USSR was so inefficient: what mattered there wasn't hard work or innovation or accomplishment - it was jus being able to keep up with the mental gymnastics the ideology demanded and be cravenly submissive to it. The west is now gong the same way, which is probably part of why we are becoming more and more economically stagnant.
