  11. Yeah, a huge warning sign is when you're paying money to SKIP gameplay. If the game is actually fun and balanced - you shouldn't want to do that, and you're only paying to increase your ranking. I see that as different to being charged extra money for extra content that you actually enjoy.

  15. I'm increasingly convinced that the financialization of the economy is one of the things that's gradually destroying capitalism. Everything is now geared towards the short-term demands of finance conglomerates, especially private equity firms: and everyone is suffering from it.

  16. I know Russian oligarchs are not an easy-to-sympathize with group: but I don't like the idea that the government can simply confiscate property without due process. If they can do it to rich Russians, they can do it to you and me, and saying the property is "frozen" is irrelevant, you have still been deprived of the use of them with no trial. Look at what just happened in Canada, where opponents of the government simply had their money frozen despite having committed no crime.

If "Middle class" means that your life is not a constant scrabble to make enough money to afford the basics of life, plus a few luxuries - then the number of middle class people in the west has nose-dived in the last 30 years. It absolutely appals me how many people have good jobs and yet are living pay-check to pay-check due to astronomical rents.

  31. The social control aspect of this doesn't seem to be getting enough discussion. We just found out from the Twitter files that tech companies and the government were colluding on a massive scale to silence dissent and keep their scandals secret - imagine if they could also shut down your car, eject you from your home, terminate your banking, end your internet access etc: if you say the "wrong" thing.

We used to have a thing called "sound money" based on metals: then "smart" people in government realized they had more power when money was debt-based.

No actually - the National Socialist German Workers Party espoused the idea of society "volk" being perfectible through government intervention, eugenics and ideological purity: which is textbook progressivism.
