Tax, that is basically the reason. Also the EPA punish diesel a bit harder than Euro regulations do. AdBlue is a brand name for a exhaust fluid, that name is from a European company so that is probobly while nobody talks about it in the US. There is not much diffrance in maintenance nowadays. If you have a petrol car, you need to change plug, if you have a diesel car you need to fill AdBlue. The tax is actually higher for diesel car, but the fuel consumption is lower. With high pressure injection gasoline engines the diffrance is not that large any more, and petrol car is starting to take a over hand again. I use to have a 300hp petrol 5 cylinder 7 seat suv, now have a diesel 200hp 4 cylinder 7 seat suv. The later is automatic. When driving in town the diesel for sure is easier with the higher torque and also the automatic. But when ever i get about say 80, i do notice the power is lower, quite a bit lower. (and my newer car is slightly lighter). Power is king always.
