  1. With the Kombi maybe should look into the Hippie trail. Something that sounds totally unrealistic today. Back in mid 1900 when flying was really expensive and gasoline was really cheap. People (mostly teens and people in there 20-tys) use to drive to India and Thailand. People typically loaded up a VW kombi with 7-8 people, with load of baggage on the roof. Then drove to Turkey, over to Iran, Afghanistan, Pakistan, India, and ultimately took a ship to Thailand (or stayed in India). Because Gas was dirt cheap, specially in Iran and Pakistan, this journey cost very little in money, but.. well took quite a long time. The Iranian revolution finally closed down the trail, due to USSR also being closed of. Later War in Afghanistan closed down that country to. There is still people who attempt this trail today, but its not very safe, a lot of them die.
