Here they call the land lord and ask for a master key. How they do in a single family home i don´t know. Now when floor windows are so popular its even harder becasue they are by law forced to have unbreakable glass both inside and outside. The one i got is 3x6mm with unbreakable inside and outside and laminated in the middle. You are better of going throw the wall

Its bad how true that is. My wall on the new build part of my house have 13mm gypsom, 11mm wood, the 35cm insulation with lumber, then 9mm gyspom, then a airgap of 20mm, then 23mm more wood. In the old build there is a massive 150mm solid wood core in the wall inside of the insulation. It took me 3 hours to get throw that with a chainsaw when i was to cut a new window. In a typical (granted cheaply build american house) there 11mm gypsom, 95-120mm of insulation and lumber, then they have like tar paper on the out side, or plastic wood imitation pannels. Granted, for like industrial building, zip pannels are used in both USA and europe. They are really quite sturdy and cheap and fast to build. ITs kind of strange that they are not used for houses.

@aphexart I guess you got to keep the cost of construction down somehow if you want to make the building ever larger. Granted, i was about to expand my house to 400m2 (about 4000 square foot), but the annoying planing office was doing me dirty. Would assume that it would be a pretty common size in the US for new builds. The downside is that they can´t build them smaller due to how the mortgage work.

And the dude at the inside is like "ohh, sorry, could not hear you knocking, had some eurodance on, use the door bell the next time, druggdealer, oh sorry no, wrong floor" By the way , the police have speciall battering ramps that don´t bounce. They are quite heavy and need at least to people to carry. Also in Sweden where the door always open outwards, they have a special ram that can force pull the door out.

@SanderVandeWiel Depends on where you live. That set up is basically non existing where i live in northern Europe. Most brick houses here are either really old and massive brick, or they are fake brick houses. Also quite common

@potatoes8414 at my work we build houses of prefab concrete. Some type of wall that are farily popular is granit block outer wall. We cut them typicallt 40-70mm thick, the. Cast them in 70mm concrete, put 120-200mm of insulation then cast a 100-200mm inner wall. The final product can be over half a meter thick, but really well insulated, high quality finish and fairly light for the crane and truck to lift. We could make the interior wall in granit as well if you want to build a modern castle.

@butlazgazempropan-butan11k87 Its quite heavy deminishing return. 12cm is actually not that bad if you have good windows and doors. Some places have 5-7cm as standard, that becoes to be pretty bad. Also depends on what kind of insulation you have. If you have a 5cm close cell insulation with 100% covrage, that is as good as 10cm open cell insulation with 98% coverage, or 12-13cm of fiber insulation with 90% coverage. (Usually close cell insulation are sprayed on, so it typically have 100 covrage)

@RedFox314 30cm is reallt not that thick with full brick and half brick.. possibly quarter brick. Of cause kind of depends whst insulation there is. Wherr i work we often usd close foam insulation. Even here in sweden 12-15cm is sufficent. With open foam we need 20-25 and with stonewool we need over 30 cm.

@tarkitarker0815 A 400m2 house in a suburb in USA is not that uncommon. Here in Sweden houses are typically between 160 and 250m2. Newbuild houses exist as small as 130m2, but then they are consider sort of a starer house, a building that are made to be extended, (they are actually quite affordable, they sold a bunch new build here by the lake for about €250k, the 170m2 cost about €300k)
