Shane Lucy it is always officer discretion to make an arrest on misdemeanor citations most states traffic codes state may arrest instead of shall arrest it is to de-escalate imagine if like in Houston as many folks that refuse to sign got hooked up there would be no cops on the street.. he should have given her a warning for first offense verbal or written if he wants I’ve had numerous folks having bad days do the same and most can be persuaded to comply I would much rather spend my time arresting felons or drug smugglers which is a great way to find them on traffic stops yes she was wrong but it could have been de-escalated

Jose Alexi as a former officer I can tell you everyone is belligerent and combative think of how upset you get when you get a ticket whether you have the pay or not for job security and freedom from being prosecuted it is best to look at the severity of the offense and what best service the people we are entrusted to protect and serve it easy to go in hard but is it always the best solution to fix minor infraction I spent my time taking down felons and drug trafficker traffic tickets are just a revenue generating machine which can most times be served with a warning and follow up but that’s just my many years of dealing with folks 👍🏻
