  1. Tech debt can definitely be a nightmare if it's not handled. You pretty much need to incorporate fixing the most crucial/largest tech debt issues in conjunction with your usual work in order to maintain a semblance of sanity. PMs will (almost) never include tech debt in a sprint so it's your job as the engineer to convince them to do so. My favorite tech debt tasks are the ones where you get to remove files. I feel like those have the biggest payoff.
