  1. It appears Russia attacked and left their flanks open, this is a desperate move. If it works it can give them time but winter is coming so this is risking almost everything. If this doesn't work, this is a complete collapse of their western army. After that the south will be lost. If Russia is lucky they might be able to retreat to Crimea and fortify but they need to do thar almost now.
