  5. Great video, as always! 👏I absolutely agree with the advice that "A better writer is a better reader." Reading a substantial amount of good books will really influence someone to think better and pen those thoughts. If I may contribute unsolicited advice, one of the secrets to achieving excellence (not perfection) in writing is to ask good questions. These doubts and curiosities are the driving force of any writer (and thinker) to grab their pen and move the cursor of the blank page.

  8. 👋 I cannot agree more on the advice of intentionality in picking books and having good reasons. This is what I applied when I loved the habit of reading way back 2018. After a year of building this habit, I picked personal development books both on Christian and secular genres. In 2020, my theme was pain and suffering. In 2021, I decided to read G.K. Chesterton's magnum corpus, Orthodoxy and The Everlasting Man, in which the only 2 books I read that year. And this year, I decided to oscillate between philosophical and psychological books. My plan for my 2023 reading lists is to consume Fyodor Dostoevsky. Keep reading everyone ✨

  9. Personally, this is such great content! After I spend the first half of 2023 with Dostoevsky and Nietzsche. I am planning to read Plato and Descartes. To somehow battle the Ancient and Modern "beginner" philosophical journey. Is this also a viable option to be a content in the future? Comparative Philosophy/Philosopher? I would love to see how philosophy evolves from the Ancient to Medieval To Modern eras.

  11.  @billyalarie929  That's a great question, Billy. There could be two ways to approach this. Firstly, there are instances where creative (writer, thinker, etc.) people need to wrestle with stupid questions (ideas, etc.) first in order for them to eat the fruit of the good ones. Not all begin as an expert. And the state of being stupid (lost, naive, peculiar, etc.) can constitute the idea of greatness, better than not starting at all. And the second one would be people who ask good questions is the fruit of the great contents they consume. Having said this, the next question should be, "what constitute good questions?"

When I read the statement, "It should not replace or disrupt anything good that already exist...", I remember Aristotle in proposing happiness as humanity's greatest pursuit; happiness is attained by doing good, and goodness is attained through fulfilling one's purpose (i.e. Telos / design or function). At the end of this video, I contemplated the thought that a computer/laptop or pencil and pen must serve as an assistant to the writer to fulfill their thinking roles in which they stemmed the concept of being a good writer and resulted in the state of happiness or contentment in their creative endeavor. Either of the two means, what is indispensable is the fulfillment of one's Telos.

  13. I have been waiting for this content for so long. Thank you for these book recommendations. In 2024, I will fill my TBR bucket list with philosophy and psychology books. May I quickly ask, in reading philosophical books, would you recommend reading a summary of philosophers' works in one book rather than their books? For example, reading Bertrand Russel's A History Of Western Philosophy instead of reading individual books by Plato, Aristole, and others?

  14. I totally respect both ends of the opinions. My friends who love reading prefer physical books. For the recurring reason that they want to see the books on their shelves as achievements. While I prefer digital copies because I want to store my books for ages. And create E-Libraries. But either way, the virtue of reading does not change because of the means. Keep reading, folks!

The Death Of Ivan Ilyich (and other Tolstoy writings) and 1984 are already added to my 2024 TBR Bucket 😁 If I may add on the list, that others could find interesting, I would recommend: (1) Man's Search For Meaning (Viktor Frankl) (2) Modern Man In Search Of A Soul (Carl Jung) (3) When Christmas Comes (Andrew Klavan) These are some of my favorite short books I read last year and this year.   17. I never read or considered picking up any science fiction books. But this video definitely encourages me to consider doing so in the future. Given its relation with philosophy. In the meantime, I'm just curious of the shortcomings that science fictions have?

  20. Even though I have a modern note-taking method, which is through online resources. I still find the traditional note-taking method being so helpful and inspiring. Also challenging for me to try it personally.

  21. Great video! I think I kinda fall into Bullet Journaling and Freewriting kinds of Journals. If I am working fast-paced, bullet journaling works. While if I want to dig deep a little bit into my thoughts, freewriting is my bias.
