@whatdafarkenhell7110 that's a false comparison the gun you speak of was a Gatling gun and that's not what we're talking about. At least I'm not. Automatic and semi-automatic that's it and besides the AR-15s have been modified to 3 round burst. Assault rifle was gen. By the media. @ChaosSwissroIl (I replied to the wrong reply😑) I'm not conflating I've just been around these weapons before and yes it's a loose term it's when you read about them and what classification they are that they actually State automatic or semi-auto. Machine gun was the original term once automatic rapid fire was a thing in the military. That has spilled over. The news media took a AR-15 and assumed a assault rifle that was my original point. Looks like I should have clarified but anyway. The AR-15 on the select fire has Auto, semi-auto and safe if that means anything.

Michael Cote right I think we've established that. It has no place in current vocabulary especially in the United States. My point is it's used over used by media as a trade name and it's fictional.
