  2. I thought it's about the cartridge too and not just the age. old guns firing modern cartridges are still NFA regardless of age.

  3.  @danm7298  but there aren't submachine guns made pre-1899 anyway? a felon can always get a semi auto gun from a buddy or the blackmarket.
