  1. As an engineer this kind of unknown glitches are normal, and expected. What they should do is write papers about them and see what other scientists can think of them as, and whether they can come up with more lemonade ideas from these lemons (i.e. use it to detect earthquakes or earth core circulation, etc). To me this is the difference between engineers and scientists (looking at worst case vs best case scenarios). BTW don't think too much about Nobel prize, because if Obama can win a Nobel peace prize then anything is possible.
