  1. They originally did cylindrical cells because of economy of scale (standard size, lots of small cells make it easy to make mass produce batteries even if the car is not yet mass produced). CATL already has mass production of prismatic cell so it make sense for Tesla to use them as much as possible. As long as they can get the cooling and charge speed under control there is no need for the high cooling surface area of cylindrical cell pack.
