This is actually why many "philanthropists" donate their old estates instead of selling them, and this is actually why companies are borrowing money to buy back shares instead of moving money from oversea profits to the US and pay dividends.

@campbellpaul Those banks usually do this only if you have lots of assets and good relationship with you, and they do it as a product of their private banking business.

@lefteris797 It is a loop hole in charitable donation. You don't need to sell something that appreciate in valve (capital gain tax) before writing off your donation. This works because capital gain tax could be (20% for example) and charitable donation writes down your regular income (50% of example). Best of all you don't need a buyer for that, just an appraisal for low volume non commodities.
