  2. Oppressed, yes. Genocide as others claim? Not really. The common bias of the uighurs living outside of Xinjiang among the rest of the Han population is that most of them are pick pockets and poverty. So in a way they are sort of like the Roma people in many European nations, plus separatists that China frame many of them on after 911. In a way since China has been doing social engineering on many of the former minor ethnic group like the Manchurians and the Nan Mans over the centuries, they figure it would work by giving them job training and preemptive confinement at the same time. Basically they figure if they can remove poverty they would eliminate a lot of stress, and prevent a permanent Roma poverty slum problem.

  3. Actually you would be surprised, they have that in many other places as well not just in Xinjiang. Security is not only for terrorism but also to avoid gang kidnapping of rich and upper middle class people.
