@folkrod "However I know for a fact if all it needed was a display replacement to be functional again you could have easily just asked for a screen replacement and they would do it either under the out of warranty cost that they charge and usually same-day OR if you have AppleCare plus for $29.99 they will replace it with a brand new genuine display." Nope, I was hoping for that but they want the whole phone replaced, or nothing done.
Anyways, I don't plan to keep arguing with you as you already have your mind set and so do I. This is a design problem, and they could have done it differently in the design of the software, their service department is not flexible of course but it is not their fault. It is the design of the software that lock you out when an unrelated component fail. They could have done a better design instead of "you should have back up". What is next and even worse? Soldering the SSD on the MacBook motherboard so when you have a bad board with water damage for example, you lose your data. Now imagine if you are Linus at LTT, a broken screen on the 5K Mac they refuse to sell a screen to fix, imagine if it is not just the screen but the board also got fried on a MacBook and they cannot replace it even if they want to pay, because the data is on the nand soldered to the motherboard that is locked without a new screen. Is this stupid or what?
Don't tell me you can backup all the time because a lot of data. Imagine you go for an out door data collection trip and you are not on wifi. You are hosed. This is a simple problem that doesn't need stupid subscription to resolve, they just don't care if you are not paying a premium for their design trade off.
BTW, I would like to know what you do for a living, because you clearly don't understand the concern of what happen if you lose your data and what kind of risk could and couldn't be reduced.
