  1. To be fair with hyper inflation and rising income inequality, gentrification is going to happen no matter what. If de Blasio is not the one who helped it someone else would become the mayor, it is all the same. The deal to move some homeless to upper west side is really a "look we've done something, we didn't keep homeless away from the rich neighborhood so don't blame us" political ploy. If they didn't house them you bet news would come out and call him names. Now he is off the hook, even if it is just a short term homeless shelter he is off the hook.

  2. I think housing those homeless in Upper West Side is intentionally doing it to show "it is not going to work" and then quickly be done with it. All political pressure is over and no longer the mayor's problem.
