They hire people using the same generalist software interview by testing "scaling an algorithm to the order" method instead of how you build and integrate stuff with specialist domain knowledge. Apple does the opposite and only hire specialists focus on one area, the only area, from the vendor or competitor that are good at it, and keep them there only for that kind of work. Google will never have good hardware if they keep hiring generalists trying to do specialists jobs, they will only get people who spend all their time preparing for the Google style interview, and then sit in their generalists cubicle doing generalists work and then get stuck on specialists work.

She couldn't get the Genius Bar to replace only the screen and she had to give up that phone in exchange for another one. We end up finding a local reputable repair place, tell them we want to do data recovery with a borrowed screen on site, then pay him labor. This guy was very helpful and we were able to recover the data we needed. It is stupid that we cannot backup any data if a screen die but the board is fine, and even more stupid when we went to Best Buy they said we have voided our warranty because the seal is broken between the screen and the phone, and offer to sell us another phone instead. I told Geek Squad not to enter anything into the system and I'll just walk away, and back to the repair place for help. The repair guy said this is BS and I can send it to Genius Bar to get a warranty exchange as long as there is no screen crack or water damage. I send it in and waited for 1 week and then the phone came back with everything replaced. Stupid.

The reason they exist is this fills a need: they are the housing of last resort before homeless. The gov is not doing enough because of the lack of land and because land sales is one of the biggest income source of the gov, so keeping home price sky high is the goal and home affordability is the consequence of it. If you want low tax you will have this, so IMO increasing tax is actually good if this means more land (they are artificially limited to prop up the price) and more home affordability.

Once there was a capacitor in a phone that was custom designed to be thinner than anything else, then it would "sing" in a human audible frequency, so instead of using a normal capacity, the engineers try to switch to different frequency on the PMIC and ended up with a much higher power consumption in idle (that frequency is to avoid interference with the touch screen). Finally they disqualify the capacity and go back to a more normal design instead of this super thin custom design. If you crack H2 out of CHx you would use a lot of energy in the process, and in the end less efficient than burning CHx in the first place, and nothing cleaner. Maybe you should read some engineering paper. If you are going to use renewable to crack H20 into H2, it is more efficient to just store it in a battery instead of crack then reverse in a fuel cell.

Many great artists were not valuable because they are 1) not yet dead so they can always create more arts in the future, 2) does not have a great story that makes them unique (i.e. Van Gough is actually a horrible artist with mental disorder, but after he's famous even his sculptures, something of very low quality, became very valuable). If they can icloud backup when user is sleeping they should be able to icloud backup when the phone screen is off in an emergency by icloud control, this is just bad design.

You cannot do it after the screen already died and you want to recover the data without a screen. This is the problem. If you have all the money in the world of course nothing is a problem. If you think this is a good design good for you, but it is not. I'm sure you have some priority concern regarding to security but this is something that can be resolved and Apple (and Samsung too, to be fair) decide it is more profitable to "encourage" you to pay for a subscription for backup.

Anyways, the point is you CANNOT just get one month when this happen and you have to do it for indefinitely when this is not yet happen (of course it won't happen if it is a tech savvy person who owns this like me instead of another person who doesn't care). You cannot do this at the store after this happen, you cannot ask them to just change the screen, and you have to risk voiding the whole phone's warranty just to retrieve the data when this design defect can totally be avoided. You can call it good design all you want but this is not good when it can easily be avoided, if the company is consumer centric. They are trying to run it like an insurance instead of a service. You cannot use it for a month only to recover data, you have to sign up way ahead indefinitely or they won't let you recover stuff.

Now imagine if you are Linus at LTT, a broken screen on the 5K Mac they refuse to sell a screen to fix, imagine if it is not just the screen but the board also got fried on a MacBook and they cannot replace it even if they want to pay, because the data is on the nand soldered to the motherboard that is locked without a new screen. Is this stupid or what? Don't tell me you can backup all the time because a lot of data. Imagine you go for an out door data collection trip and you are not on wifi. You are hosed. This is a simple problem that doesn't need stupid subscription to resolve, they just don't care if you are not paying a premium for their design trade off. BTW, I would like to know what you do for a living, because you clearly don't understand the concern of what happen if you lose your data and what kind of risk could and couldn't be reduced.

It may not happen on every route but it will have certified route it would happen, and trucks would self drive either at night non-stop to make up for time vs air freight, or drive super slow to make them fuel efficient without labor cost. Once money can be made they would have the incentive to make the road friendly for self driving i.e. magnetic or RF lane marker, system to track what other cars were on the road ahead of you and warn the trucks for any incidents, etc.

  1773. I completely agree with you about this. It is a tough spot to be in whether to keep things open or close, or somewhere in between. You will not get people to be happy about everything closed up (because essential services is not a black and white border but rather a gray zone), and partial close up only help slow things down and get SOMEONE to slowly go out of business (25% capacity does not mean 25% rent and 25% wages). What I think is the mandatory no eviction reduced capacity law is there to protect some people and corporation but not the others. Still, refusing to wear mask or believe in the pandemic just because it is a liberal thing to do is stupid. That's the only thing I think can be universally agreed upon.
