The only reason, is that India is dependent on Russia for weapons, but also do not want to break from west. You cannot be more confused than that. There is nothing called brothers among countries. India and China wer also brothers. They do not speak the same language, just as all of India does not speak the same language. By Abstaining from the vote, India has accepted Russia's position and Russia has thanked India.

I am in IT , but my son is doing Dphil in Maths, but did not see any relation between his academic interest or my area of work. If that was so, he would be going to city as an IT developer after his masters.

  20.  @arushi8046  India was one of the few companies to shut down its embassy. If India considers Ukraine as an indpendent country, why does it say the attack on an independent country is non negotiable. India's track record of supporting dictators leaves a lot to be desired.

  26.  @ArkoRay  You cannot always go by history. Ukraine was part of Russia, if you go by history. It is for India to prove, whose side it is on. India by not voting and Russia expressing its gratitude to India and China, both who took the same stance makes it clear, whose side India is on. Modi saying does not matter, Russia has invaded a country and any country will fight against its invaders. The war can only be avoided by putting pressure on Russia. So called excellent relation with Russia did not help in evacuating Indian students before the war.

Russia has supplied arms to Pakistan too. History is not what you go by, but future. Historically, Ukraine and Russia was one.
