  18. It's called checks and balances, some officials are directly elected, some are appointed by other elected officials. Elections are staggered so seats aren't always changed at the same time, different positions hold different term lengths and limitations. Fucking hell you idiots really have no idea how our system works, do you? There's a reason it was set up to be a constitutional republic and not a direct democracy.
