It's not a handout though, it's SOME of your money back, that they took from your paycheck for your entire life. Imagine if you could just keep all that money and put it in a private account that accrues interest. Or don't, do whatever you want with it. It's your money, and your retirement

Good lord you people are so dramatic. This country has a lot of problems, but it's still a lot better than most. That's why more people come here per year than any other country in the world, by a huge margin, 3x more than the next country on the list. And most of the things that suck are due to policies that were pushed by the people who always complain about how much everything sucks. You're just the latest generation of them.

@emarquez70 no, I'm actually not aware of her, can you tell me her name, so I can look up that story and point to where you're lying? Because that clearly didn't happen.

lq4275 they're doing more for the world that some neckbeard crying on the internet about how they shouldn't be poor anymore, just because they don't want to be poor. I'm sure most billionaires are pretty shitty people, they're obviously obsessed with money. But where would you be without your iPhone and the ability to order anything you want, delivered to your house, and all the other modern luxuries you think should just be a "right"? Someone has to orchestrate all of that.

It's not a free government gift package, it's the money you paid in taxes for your entire working life. For most people, it's much less than what you paid. You could put that same amount into a savings account and have a lot more when you retire.

But not the Starbucks baristas that think they should have more just because other people have more, and that rich people owe them something just because they're rich. They're totally not greedy or selfish, it's all those people who think they should be legally allowed to earn as much money as someone else is willing to pay them.

@j0j0dartiste21 ah yes, of course, you buying hot pockets and weed will definitely stimulate the economy. You're doing your part.

Do progressives really not understand that Social Security isn't just a magic handout the government gives you when you retire? That's your money, that you were already forced to pay while you were working. And for most people, you get a lot less back than what you paid. You don't need the government to be your piggy bank, you could actually get much more back for your retirement if you kept that tax money and used a bank bank instead.

Where is this "unchecked" capitalism I always see people talking about? It's certainly not in the current US, there are more business regulations than in many countries that are considered much more left than the US, there are higher corporate taxes than many other countries too, higher taxes in general. And the military budget is off the charts. Our capitalism is very "checked", it's as checked as you're going to find.

@j0j0dartiste21 they take your money all your life, give some of it back to you when you retire, and call it a gift. It would be better for people to just invest in their own retirement, you can put the same amount away in a bank account that you pay in taxes, and it will gain interest. You'll get more money when you retire than what you paid, instead of less than what you paid, because the government always skims a little off the top.
