  2. Not really, it's almost exclusive to left wing movements. The main difference between right and left is that the right is more individualist, and the left is more collectivist. Collectivism if taken to an extreme will always lead to authoritarianism. Individualism doesn't typically go to an extreme in the first place, and even when it does, it's typically a crazy guy in the woods, living off the land. That doesn't really harm anyone except himself.

I understand that economics are not the only issue, but socialism is very firmly on the left hand scale, there is no intelligent argument for labelling avowed socialists as right wing. I know the academics will tell you that fascism is right wing, that's what is in every book, but they're lying, they want to assign a villain to the right, because the left already has too many. Critical thinking will always put fascism firmly on the left, and nothing about modern conservatives is even remotely fascist.
