  1. Money is a representation of value. The chicken farmer can't walk around with a bunch of chickens in case he wants to trade for something, that would be a pain in the ass. And the person he's trading with may not want or need chickens, then he's got to trade his chickens for grain so he can trade the grain for shoes, or whatever else it is. See how that's a problem? So we decided to just carry pieces of paper that represent that value, one paper is 3 chickens, or 1 pair of shoes, or whatever you want it to be. Most people have worked this logic out on their own by 3rd grade.
