@johnaustin6067 yea I'm just being real about it, I don't mean any disrespect or to sound condescending. Seems like most people are on one side of the extreme with the issue of homelessness, people on the right tend to have an attitude like fuck em, that's their own problem. And people on the left tend to have an attitude like it's someone else's fault that people are homeless, and there's some kind of magic fairy wand we can wave and end homelessness forever, in an instant, but people don't want to do it because they're just evil or something? I'm not really sure about their reasoning there. To me the more reasonable response is somewhere in the middle, we can definitely do more to help people and prevent homelessness and poverty in general, but at the end of the day, charity and good will can only go so far. People have to want to help themselves before anyone else can really help them in a long term, sustainable way.

A lot of them are drug addicts though. Drug addiction is the #1 cause of homelessness, by a tremendous margin.

@mikepalmer1971 a lot of people choose to live on the streets. Obviously they would rather live in an apartment if they could afford it, but they could go to a shelter, they're there in every major city. But some people would prefer the freedom of getting high and drunk all day, getting money from random strangers. Again, it's not an ideal situation. But they don't have to pay for any bills or anything else, they don't have to work.

Being anti war, or pro war in the absolute sense are both nonsensical positions. Every conflict is different, and requires different responses. Now I would consider myself "anti war" in the sense that I think there are very few situations where war is the most sensible response, and I don't think any war in the last half century has fallen into that category. But I wouldn't be against war in absolutely every scenario.

@thejimmydoreshow I'm also not buying the domestic violence thing, considering there are shelters specifically for female victims of domestic violence in every major city. Unless this "report" is counting the women at these shelters as homeless, and that wouldn't be particularly honest framing, would it? So have to imagine, a woman who's a victim and chooses to live on the streets rather than go to one of these shelters probably has a specific reason for that, and logic would say that drug addiction is the most common reasoning for that. 2 things can both be true, I'm not trying to deny that the things you just listed are problems too, but why do you think there are people who make low wages but aren't homeless, and other people who are? Probably because the people who can't afford housing are spending their money on something other than housing, such as drugs.

It's crazy to see so many of the alleged "Anti war" leftists be so blinded by ideology that they're falling for exact same manipulation in supporting Ukraine that most conservatives fell for at the beginning of the Iraq war. And I'll be the first to admit I fell for it too, they made a pretty convincing case about "a fight for freedom". In my defense I was also really young, and I changed my position relatively quickly as more about the bullshit unravelled. But the left today has no excuse, they have the benefit of hindsight from just 20 years ago to look back on. And yes, Russia bad, I get it, bad Putin Russia man, bad bad bad, but that doesn't mean we should be pouring trillions of dollars into Ukraine when there are so many domestic crises going on over here.

@thejimmydoreshow well that report is bullshit, considering the high rate of drug addiction within the homeless population. Sure you can say that's not the primary cause, but that's just speculation, and it would be extremely ignorant to pretend like it's not at least a factor.

@The_JohnnieWalker for real, and I'm sure all of those other things are factors too. But if someone loses their job and can't afford housing because of their drug addiction, or at least primarily because of that, wouldn't you say that drug addiction is the primary cause? Because that's what I'm guessing this "report" ignored, they just cited incidents like that, which are extremely common, as being caused by lack of affordable housing, unemployment, or low wages.

@The_JohnnieWalker I like Jimmy, way more than most lefties. In fact he's probably my favorite prominent lefty, I agree with him about a lot more than most of them. But he's got some serious ideological blinders when it comes to topics like homelessness and poverty, and healthcare.
