Yea the concept of locking people in cages for profit is pretty gross. Prisons are supposed to be for keeping dangerous people off the streets, that's all. I'm pretty libertarian too, but that's one of my rare exceptions where I think publicly funded is acceptable.

@user-nj1zu2nf1x that's one function of prisons, but not everyone can be rehabilitated.

@GnanaPrakash86AP people in prison for small crimes mostly plead down from more serious charges. You have to have some pretty serious charges to wind up in prison. The state would keep everyone out on parole or probation if they could, that's money in their pocket. Prison is for people who have exhausted every chance the state had at monetizing their criminal behavior.
