@daCATgraphics Aron Ra, TJ Kirk, now Sam Harris, it's very bizarre how the prominent atheists seem to have an attraction towards the far left and TDS. You would think the opposite actually, I've always wondered why more atheists aren't conservative, I get the religious ties to conservatism but tradition and slow progress doesn't have to be rooted in religious beliefs, and conservative ideals are more grounded in realism, liberal/leftist ideals are... Well idealistic. The perfect utopia doesn't exist, and I'm not saying everyone left of center believes in that ideal, but more of them do than conservatives, conservatives generally just view the world as it actually is, and believe in writing legislation according to how things actually are, not how they want things to be.

I'm on the right, somewhere between conservative and libertarian, and I have a generally positive view of Jimmy too. My main grievance is that he's often dishonest and biased when he makes comments about his pet policies, like M4A, he'll just throw out a number that was concluded by one study, and pretend like that's the rock solid gospel, and also repeat statistics that are theoretical as though they're fact, like the amount of money that would be saved. You can't possibly know that without the policy actually being in place, and I think Jimmy knows that too. But when it comes to social issues I'm more in agreement than disagreement with him.

@RnR1001 it doesn't even matter how bad Trump is, when you decide that you're morally righteous, therefore principles be damned, you know what's best, you're opening the door for that kind of authoritarian thinking to take hold. Saying election fraud and manipulation is justified because orange man bad is effectively saying election fraud and manipulation is justified, all the time. Because that's what the result will be.

@strategery101 atheists often replace religion with some other form of worship, like far leftism or veganism, but not always. Plenty of people are able to live without religion all together. But I don't think humanity on the broader scale is ready for that yet.

I would argue that anyone who replaces traditional religion with political extremism isn't actually an atheist.

@icestationzebraassociates2460 I've always been the first also, at least as long as I've been an atheist, I guess since my mid 20s. I had a gradual progression, I was a Christian from about 13 to 18, then for a few years was of the "I believe in God and Christ, but not organized religion" mindset, and then around 25 or so was just kinda like nah it's all bullshit. But I was never one of those people who went out of my way to shit on religion and religious people, I don't have a problem with Christians, a lot of my friends are Christian. Most Christians are good people who just want to live a good life, I just don't agree with them about the magic baby and all that shit.

@jeanpaulchristian3282 I don't agree with everything Peterson says either, but I do think that he has a solid, principled foundation. I'm fine with that, even something we disagree on, we could still come to some kind of middle ground and at least understand where each other are coming from. Harris has shown that his one and only principle is that his team has to win, at all costs, by any means necessary. You can't reason with someone like that.

@umiluv yea and it's freaking annoying how every time I tell someone I'm an atheist, I have to follow up with the "not one of those atheists" explanations.

Disgusting, but not surprising. This is what most leftists actually believe, if they could be honest for 3 consecutive seconds. Sam is just emboldened to say the quiet part out loud, because he thinks he's so smart that he's justified in abandoning all principles.

@whendays659 I know what you're saying is an extremely basic concept, but leftists don't view the world that way, to them, if you agree with something a person says but disagree with something else they said, that's some kind of hypocrisy. They're not quite smart enough to understand what hypocrisy is. If they were, they wouldn't be leftists.
