@mightymoeish so what? That's a good thing, that we've advanced to the point where we can be more humanist. Because ancient cultures did something is not a reasonable argument for why it's good.

@O1OO1O1 extreme authoritarianism, redistribution of wealth, government control of economics. It's more complicated than that, but that's the bare bones of it. What's your point?

He thinks abortion is wrong morally, but he doesn't support a federal ban.

That's a pretty fair assessment, I think the most reductionist way of explaining the difference is that left wing leans towards collective, and right wing leans towards individual. And nobody is 100% one or the other, that's why it's not that simple, everyone believes in some collectivism, and some individualism. A leftist would just be more likely to want a collective solution, and a right winger would be more likely to want an individualist solution, or no solution at all because they think people should just be free to make their own decisions.

"Right wing" just means not a bat shit insane lunatic who thinks men can have babies.

@samrowan1394 but the right makes the claim that they're benefitting the collective at an individualist level. If everyone takes care of themselves and their own family and friends, then everyone is taken care of. That's idealistic, obviously there's never going to be a society where 100% of people are well taken care of, but it also wouldn't happen under leftist ideals. Conservatives have a more efficient and sustainable plan, a chain is only as strong as it's weakest link. Individualism gives more people more opportunity to improve their own lives. Socialism just drags everyone down to the same level.

Nope. A lot of mainstream Republicans suck, because Democrats suck so bad, all they have to do is not be a Democrat. But the populist right stands on principle, the left does not.

So there can never be a left wing party or movement on a sustainable scale? Because revolutions don't last forever, if a left wing revolution is successful, do they suddenly become right wing because the revolution is over, and they won?

That would be like Bruce Willis growing his hair out, the bald/beanie has become their trademark.
