  2. I really think the whole point was to divide the populace and sew distrust in medicine. Or at least one of the main points. It really wouldn't have been that hard to just be honest, say "ok, this is a brand new treatment, we haven't gone through all the testing we normally do, because we didn't have time, but as far as we know, there are no serious side effects". Most people would have had a reasonable response to that.
