I don't think there's a single person on the planet who ever genuinely believed this insanity, there are people at the top pushing it on kids because they know the harm it will do to society, there are people in the middle, pushing it on kids because they want to virtue signal about how "empathetic" they are, without really understanding any of it, and there are the kids it's being pushed on, who just don't know any better. But nobody at any level ever really believed it.
