I can understand the general spirit behind the "body positivity" BS, sure, you shouldn't make fun of people's appearances, if for no other reason just because it's rude. But a lot of leftists have taken that way too far, to the point of encouraging delusions that there's nothing unhealthy about being overweight. Which is far more harmful than just pointing and saying haha, look at the fatty. We were actually better off "fat shaming" people than all of this madness.

Soda is a huge thing too, which I know falls into what you were already saying, and I don't know about you personally, but a lot of Americans have a huge problem with soda, I used to drink an obscene amount of Dr Pepper. I think people don't think about their drink intake as much as food when it comes to diet, it's easy to just sip on soda all day long and kinda put it out of your mind. I quit drinking soda except every once in awhile during meals about 6 months ago, and have lost about 20lbs without really changing any other habits. And I'm not a fat guy, just an average sized guy with a Hank Hill gut.

@trashyBagles it can, but that doesn't mean it's the only thing that works, or even the most effective thing. I'm just saying I could somewhat agree with the whole body positivity shit if it was just "hey, don't make fun of people for being fat" and just that, but like all things, the left takes the inch you give them and an additional mile.

That's the excuse maker's excuse, but on an individual level you can still take personal responsibility over your own health. And I'm saying this as someone who's not in grade-A physical condition myself, so don't think I'm trying to be holier than thou, but to try and pin it on corporations is just lazy and childish. I know it makes you feel good to shake your finger at the nasty rich people, but it's not gonna make you healthier.

@spiceinsights that's a false dichotomy though, I never said weight is the only thing that matters, or even imply it. I'm only saying putting the blame on big evil corporations doesn't get you anywhere, and hell I even agree in part that mass producing cheap, unhealthy foods is part of the problem, but pointing in that direction gets us nowhere and is even counter productive to the goal you probably want to achieve. People need to take individual responsibility for their own health, trying to put it on the corporation boogeyman plays right into the corporation boogeyman's hands, you're just enabling people by making them feel helpless. You don't have to eat all that shit, even if you're poor, and poor people can exercise too. If more people starting taking care of their own asses instead of looking for some collective guilt to shrug it all off, we would eventually be spending less on that corporate shit in the first place, people would be healthier, the big evil corporations that you hate would have less power too. Everyone wins. But it starts on an individual level, collectivism is what got us into all this shit in the first place.

@madashell7224 and the really crazy part, and this is just personal, and anecdotal, but when I started laying off of soda it also started a sort of snowball effect where I started eating less in general. Guess it shifted my metabolism, or maybe my body was just so used to having so much sugar it was constantly screaming "too much sugar, bitch!!! Protein and fat please!!!!" So I was eating bigger meals. Either way, it's been a huge difference, I tell people who want to lose weight all the time too. It's such an easy thing to do, you get used to replacing with water or at least something less sugary pretty quickly.

@nolanarmstrong2458 I'm trying to be charitable and assume they meant we shouldn't normalize obesity, as in we shouldn't actively encourage people by saying it's completely fine to have 37 cheeseburgers and 4 gallons of diet coke for dinner.

@ressljs it is quite insane, the same people who say they're "living their best life" will also proudly declare all of the disorders they suffer from, as though it's the player bio from a video game or something.

@trashyBagles hey, whatever works, I think people have just gotten far too soft in general. So many people (mainly on the left) seem to have this obsession with the idea that they should never have to encounter anything unpleasant in their lives. I just don't understand (a) what world they think they're living in, and (b) what world they even want to live in, it doesn't seem very well thought out. We have to overcome obstacles in our lives, that's not only part of life whether you like it or not, it's an essential part of the human experience. I can't even imagine how boring life would be if everything was always easy.

@spiceinsights of course there are obstacles, there is no easy way to be healthy. Even if you have a good head start on life by growing up with good parents and good education, and don't have any genetic predisposition to health complications, time is still going to catch up to you eventually. There's not a single adult that's in peak physical condition without having to work to get there, at least to some degree.

Yup, that's why they're pushing for government controlled healthcare too. Imagine how beholden you would be to your masters if you're morbidly obese, mentally ill, and they hold the entire deck of the life sustaining medicine you need.

And the left wants "free" healthcare, and also wants to encourage people to live self destructive, irresponsible lifestyles. So people who make responsible choices and take care of themselves have to pay higher taxes for people who just shovel 15 cheeseburgers into their face every day and play Xbox all day. And people can do what they want, I'm not saying you're not allowed to be lazy and make poor choices, but you shouldn't expect other people to help you pay for your own poor choices.

I'm speaking more to veganism as a whole, if someone wants to be a vegan I really don't care, I just loathe the unearned sense of moral superiority that's attached to it. And it's not everyone, I've met a lot of vegans in the real world that are pretty cool. But pretty much every noisy online vegan is an insufferable asshole. A lot of people just use it as a cover to take a make believe moral high ground so they can be a complete jackass and feel self righteous about it. And everyone knows what I'm talking about too.
