@Eddie_of_the_A_Is_A_Gang that's a good assessment, kind of along the lines of what I was saying but I think you broke it down a little more neatly. I also think it's fair to point out the "that wasn't real communism" argument is usually used to argue that real communism WOULD work, other nations just weren't communist enough. And when people say "that's not real capitalism" what they're arguing is that capitalism actually has worked, very well, numerous times, it's just not ever an absolute, unregulated free market, nor should it be, it's just a structure that favors a free market and only uses government intervention when necessary. Where it strays is generally when there's too much government intervention, not too little.

@Arzon527 difference is I don't think anyone on the right is saying that "real capitalism" would necessarily be a good idea, I think pretty much everyone agrees that some level of government regulation is necessary in the economy, other than full blown anarchists. Because with no regulations, there's not much of a point to having a government in the first place. Some people just think we already have too many regulations (sane people) and some people think we need more regulations (communists).

@barbarossa5700 I always hear the commies screeching about the bad evil capitalism Boogeyman, I don't understand why it's so hard for them to understand, when the government is putting their thumb on the scale and picking winners and losers, THATS NOT CAPITALISM.

At this point it feels like the right is the dad that's always telling his idiot son (the left) that the stupid shit he's doing is a bad idea, and the dad is always right. And even when the idiot son is forced to acknowledge that dad was right, he learns absolutely nothing, and continues doing stupid shit, thinking that his dad is the out of touch idiot.

Yea about the closest the left has ever gotten to being accidentally right about something is when they notice that something is fucked up, like US healthcare. But that's as far as it goes. They're always 20 light years off when it comes to why exactly it's fucked up, and most of their "solutions" would only make it worse and create new problems on top of the existing problems.

@zarach9459 I think you're agreeing with me, but you're saying it like you're disagreeing.

@npcimknot958 well socialism usually does work well at first, and it sounds good in theory to stupid people. It's just not sustainable, it collapses under its own weight, and it only takes about 15 seconds of critical thought to understand the reasons why.
