Seriously, if you meet someone and he says "I'm Jim, please don't call me Jimmy, I don't like that shit", you would probably say "ok Jim, nice to meet you". If the same person says "it's Jim, bigot!!!! Don't call me Jimmy or I'll destroy your life!!!!!!" You would probably say "damn calm down Jimmy, I'll call you whatever you want, Jimmy. Jimmy." It's about respect. You get back what you give.

When Roger Maris broke the single season homerun record, he was asked if he thought he had earned the respect of Yankee fans, he said "I don't know, I don't think respect is something you earn on a ball field." And he earned the respect of all of the people who had doubted him up to that point.
